Strontium Dog Miniatures Game - Kid Knee, Blubberlips & Maeve the Many Armed

In this Strontium Dog Miniatures Game strategy guide we look at three lesser S/D Agents who can bolster your forces should you have some spare Notoriety to spend!

Kid Knee

Named because his head is positioned where one of his knees should be, his (No Head!) mutation makes him harder to kill as enemies struggle to headshot him! This is reflected in a relatively high Resist stat when directly facing enemies, making him harder to kill than some other weak characters. As he has no close combat weapons, I recommend restricting him to ranged combat.

Home-brew Rule: There are actually two Kid Knee characters in the strip; father and son. The character featured in the game is the father* who was addicted to Mac-Mac and this is reflected on his miniature. Therefore, if he is fielded, one of the Armoury Cards you will receive and must choose as part of your selection is the "Bottle of Mac-Mac" Armoury Card.

*Kid Knee Jnr's head is positioned on his left knee while his father's was on the right!

Blubberlips

Although he has identical stats to Kid Knee, Blubberlips has two advantages over his fellow S/D Agent, these relating to his weapon and his mutation. Blubberlips' gun is variable which allows him to set his weapon to stun, very handy if you are trying to subdue enemy models. His Rraasssp! ability, which enables him to spend a Single Action to attempt to pin enemy units, is particularly handy, especially if the enemy models are tightly packed together! It's great fun that something as trivial as blowing a raspberry can cause the opposition big problems! In addition, if he begins his activation close enough to enemy units and you don't get great success the first time, there is nothing in the rules stopping you from using Rraasssp! twice in the one activation!

Maeve the Many Armed

I regret to say that Maeve is a character whose stats don't really live up to the cool miniature. She has multiple arms and 4 guns in hand as well as Cu-Chulain's blade for close combat. This means she has a whopping 5 Shoot if you put her additional arms to use and fire multiple weapons. Pretty great, but bear in mind that, even if her target doesn't Evade, her guns are weak and that the enemy model will receive a bonus +1 to Resist because she fired multiple weapons. You'll land hits, yes, but will you be able to inflict much damage? The biggest problem is the cost of all these weapons which result in Maeve costing almost double to field than Kid Knee and you could argue that Kid is almost as effective (better Resist makes him more durable even though he struggles with guns).

Home-brew Ability: Split Fire: In an attempt to make Maeve slightly more effective for her cost, she can use this ability to fire at two targets each ranged attack. To do so, instead of rolling 5 Shoot, she can attack 2 models, each with a base Shoot of 2 (modifiable). Because she is firing multiple weapons to make this attack, the targets still both receive +1 to their Resist. If she uses this ability with Aimed Fire, she can put the +2 into one of the shots or +1 to each. As usual, she can attribute these into her Shoot or add to her weapon Power as desired.

Tactics

None of these S/D Agents bring Star Chips to the table and overall they won't be game changers. Don't be too surprised if they get wiped out wholesale, but neither should you be overly concerned if they do; the good news is that while your opponent is focussed on them, your Star Chip models will hopefully be freed up to cause maximum damage! As mentioned above, Kid Knee and Blubberlips are fairly tough so if you can place them behind cover they should be able to soak up a good amount of punishment. Blubberlips you may find more effective if he can get within 8" of enemies to use his Rraasssp! ability. Putting the bonus 2 combat dice into the damage caused by an Aimed Shot seems to be the best option to use for Maeve - or you can put my Split Fire ability to work which hopefully makes her a more viable choice for your band.

Overall

These characters are good for spending unused Notoriety to pad out the band. However, as they don't have Cool of 4, they cannot be used as leaders and do not bring Star Chips with them. Still, they make perfect meat shields if the likes of Hiss Weerd were to enlist them as part of his gang!
